Cancaona Municipal Council Chairperson Prathana Naik Gaunkar was appointed as chairperson of the committee at a specially convened meeting on Sunday.
Speakers condemned the rape and murder of Danielle McLaughlin and called upon the authorities to give maximum punishment to culprits involved in such crimes.
The speakers also recollected how citizens convened several meetings in the past with the authorities, especially with police personnel, on the need to build confidence among public and especially foreign tourists against the rising anti-social activities in the taluka.
The speakers however, regretted that no concrete action came forth and the most unfortunate thing had happened in the taluka.
Besides Gaunkar other members of the committee are: CMC Vice Chairperson Samita Dhuri (Vice-president), members: Divakar Pagui, Hemant Naik Gaunkar, Bharati Komarpant, former ZP member Daya Pagui, Shristhal Sarpanch Prashant Dessai, Panch Devendra Naik and citizens Mahesh Naik, Samrat Bhagat, Nandeep Bhagat, Suraj Naik Gaunkar, Vinay Tubki, Omkar Desai and Deepak Dessai.
