Commuters face hardships as traffic restrictions continue on Margao flyover over repair works

MARGAO
Even as traffic on the southern side of the commercial capital is thrown out of gear over the closure of the traffic on the flyover, restrictions imposed on plying of traffic over the Margao flyover are expected to continue at least till mid-April.

If sources in the PWD, National Highway are to be believed, the existing restrictions on one-way traffic may culminate in the closure of the bridge once work on the joints is carried out.

An official informed that the ongoing work of hot-mixing the flyover after removing the concrete may end in the next couple of days. The official, however, said that restrictions on the traffic movement on the flyover will remain when work of the joints is undertaken by the contractor. “Work on the expansion joints may not take many days, but the joints are placed and covered with concrete, the flyover will have to be closed for at least 10 days,” the official said, adding that traffic restrictions may continue till mid-April.

With the schools reopening after the long Covid break, parents bringing their children to the city schools have been facing tremendous hardships due to a host of traffic bottlenecks along the Khareband-Pedda-Comba roads. Parents pointed out that the students have been facing a nightmare to reach to their schools, more so when the examinations are underway.

In fact, traffic snarls have been the order of the day along the narrow Khareband-Pedda-Comba road since the time the Margao flyover was shut for traffic to carry out the repairs and maintenance of the bridge.
