The legal metrology department seized six products of the company for making false declaration of its manufacture details based on a complaint from GOACAN.
GOACAN co-ordinator Roland Martins complained to the Legal Metrology Department that the currency counting machine purportedly manufactured in Santa Cruz was false.
“The machine is not manufactured in Goa. It is a product from outside India and put in the box with Goa’s address to fool the consumers that it is a product of India,” Martins said.
“It is trying to show that it supports the Make in India policy, but in actual fact it is promoting a fake in India policy,” he added.
He further said the stickers on the product and the user manual clearly showed that the product in the box was not manufactured in Goa.
Acting on the complaint officials seized one currency counting machine from Mapusa post office and six products from the company’s Santa Cruz shop.
“We have seized some products of the company for making false manufacturing declaration, which does not comply as per the department’s rules. Investigation is going on and more machines may be seized,” said Nitin Purushan, Inspector at legal metrology department.
