The father of the deceased boy Deepak Mukesh Khatri, who died due to drowning in the river at Benduxem Dongorim, Navelim, on 15 July last, was presented with Rs one lakh compensation sanction letter by Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro at his Navelim office on Monday.

The compensation amount is sanctioned under the Disaster Management Fund Scheme of the State government.

While consoling the father of late Deepak, Faleiro expressed immense grief over the tragic incident and recalled that it was equally shocking how the young boy got swept away in the flooded river.

“It was this emotional moment that had led me to accompany the rescue personnel in their boat,” he said, adding the money may not be able to get the lost child back, but it will be a little support to the family.

Father of the deceased Deepak thanked Faleiro for all his sincere efforts that provided the much-needed support to the family. Khatri, who is a tile fitter by occupation, said he will utilize the funds for the education of his other children.
