OLD GOA
Activist Mariano Ferrao and Ponda local John Mascarenhas have filed a complaint with the Old Goa panchayat over the allotment of house numbers to non-existing structures.
In the complaint, it has been mentioned that around 21 house numbers, bifurcated from one house number, have been allotted in a private property.
The complainants have further pointed out that these many structures do not exist in the property and have demanded that the panchayat conduct an inspection of the property to ascertain the facts.
They have further demanded that the house numbers should be revoked upon ascertaining the facts.
Speaking to The Goan, Ferrao said, “When we came to know about the issue, we confirmed that these many structures do not exist, and later we complained to the Old Goa panchayat to conduct an inspection.”
Ferrao also demanded that the panchayat should revoke the house numbers after ascertaining the facts.
The other complainant Mascarenhas informed that nine house numbers were issued in 2006-07 while 12 house numbers were issued in 2012-13.
Mascarenhas further claimed that the area where the house numbers are issued comes within the heritage zone of the world heritage monument, the St Cajetan Church.
Meanwhile, sources informed that the panchayat, in its fortnightly meeting, has resolved to issue show cause notice to the party concerned in whose name the house numbers have been issued.
