Complaints of short delivery: Betalbatim godown raided, 18 LPG cylinders seized

MARGAO
After a video on short delivery of LPG cylinders went viral on Wednesday, officials of the Legal Metrology, South carried out a raid at an LPG gas godown at Betalbatim on Thursday and seized around 18 LPG cylinders, including 13 domestic and eight commercial gas cylinders.

Out of 13 domestic gas cylinders, 10 cylinders were rendering short delivery to the tune of 3.05kg and three cylinders were rendering excess delivery to the tune of 3.02 kg upon weighment. Out of the five commercial gas cylinders, four LPG cylinders were rendering short delivery to the tune of 1.23 kg and one LPG cylinder was rendering excess delivery to the tune of 1.113 kg, which violates Legal Metrology Act 2009, read with Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011.

The raids were carried out under the guidance of Prasad S Shirodkar, Controller, Legal Metrology, who has said that strict compliance with the provision of the Legal Metrology Act and Rules is being informed to the traders, failing which necessary action as per law shall be taken.

The Legal Metrology Controller has informed all the consumers that before buying any LPG cylinder, they should take the delivery of the LPG cylinder with the verified weighing instrument of 10g accuracy by the Legal Metrology Department. They have been further informed to see the verification certificate issued by the Department of Legal Metrology.

He said the department would continue the ‘JAGO GRAHAK JAGO’ and this drive on till the violation under the provision of Legal Metrology Act 2009, read with Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011, is eradicated.

The massive drive was carried out by the office of the Assistant Controller, Legal Metrology, South Zone-I, Margao-Goa in the Benaulim area to check the delivery of LPG cylinder as per the provision of Legal Metrology Act 2009, read with Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011.

The agency owner pointed out that the raid brought out some startling facts, that some of the LPG cylinders had short delivery, while others with excess delivery. “We have accepted the LPG cylinders as delivered by the company,” the owner said, adding that the LPG gas godown will be brought under CCTV cameras as a matter of caution.
