Comply with election norms till Jan 22 or face action: Collector

South Goa district magistrate, Ruchika Katyal, IAS, on Monday ordered that no roadshows, padyatras, cycle/bike/vehicle rallies and processions will be allowed till January 22, 2022.

Issuing directions under Section 144 of Cr PC, the district collector has further ordered that no physical rally of political parties or candidates (including probable) or any other group related to election shall be allowed till January 22.

The order further states that public gatherings in indoor halls/auditoriums/mandaps will be restricted to a maximum of 50 persons or 50 per cent of the seating capacity, whichever is less.

The order further stated that political parties, candidates, their party workers will have to ensure they comply with Covid appropriate behaviour and guidelines and the Model Code of Conduct on all occasions during activities connected with elections.

The order stated that all remaining restrictions as contained in the Revised Board Guidelines for Conduct of Elections 2022 issued on 8th January and 15th January, 2022, shall continue.

The Returning Officers/Assistant Returning Officers, Flying Squads, Sector Magistrates/Officers, Police or any other authorized officers/officials shall act immediately in case any violation comes to their notice or reported to them and initiate necessary action against the violators by filing FIR under appropriate sections before the respective police stations.

This order will come into force with immediate effect and failure to comply with it will invite penal action under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code and other provisions of laws in force.
