The ruling as well as the opposition MLAs on Wednesday raised concern over the spotting of vehicles with tinted glasses across the State despite there being a complete ban on their usage. The MLAs urged the State government to be more stringent in cracking down on the violators.
During the calling attention motion, the MLAs claimed that the ‘influential’ or ‘known’ ones are unfazed by police action and that merely imposing fines will not solve the problem.
CM Pramod Sawant, assured the House that the government will intensify the drive against tinted glasses and, apart from imposing fines, will ensure that the tints are removed by the police on the spot.
The issue of tinted glasses on vehicles came up during a calling attention motion, wherein Poriem MLA Divya Rane informed the House that the vehicle involved in a kidnapping attempt of a minor girl in Keri-Sattari had tinted glasses, according to the statement given by the parents to the police. She said that despite the ban, vehicles are freely plying with tinted glasses.
She was supported by Margao MLA Digambar Kamat and Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas. While Kamat said that mere fines will not resolve the issue, Viegas pointed out that vehicles with tinted glasses are owned by several ex-MLAs and their children.
Meanwhile, speaking on the safety of school children, the Chief Minister said adequate police patrolling through PCR vehicles, motorcycles, and foot patrolling is maintained near educational institutions and other vulnerable places for the safety of children.
School authorities have also been instructed to install CCTV cameras on the school premises for the identification of trespassers/anti-social elements, he said. Also requested to deploy security guards and to maintain visitor’s register.
