The incident took place after two candidates, Guru Babuli Muli and Gurudas Ramnath Muli were initially allotted Baby Doll and Almirah respectively, only to realise four days later that their symbols had been interchanged by election officials.
When contacted, Guru Muli said the election-related material was printed and distributed in his ward.
“I had already moved to all houses and informed voters that my symbol is Baby Doll. But now, I will have to go each and every house and inform the voters that my symbol has now been changed to Almirah,”
Muli said.
Admitting the error in interchanging the symbols, an election official hastened to add that the earlier printing cost would not reflect in expenditure costs of the candidates concerned.
“Initially, there was confusion as the names of both candidates are similar and later, we came to know that their symbols had been interchanged,” the official said.
The official, however, claimed that both candidates had no issues when they were informed about the error.
“We informed both candidates about the error and they have not complained about it,” the official said.
Despite efforts, the other candidate, Gurudas Ramnath Muli, could not be contacted for comments in the matter.
