Confusion prevails over March 27 power shutdown in South Goa

MARGAO
Confusion prevailed over the planned annual maintenance shutdown mooted by the Electricity department in entire South Goa on March 27, to carry out the maintenance of Extra High Voltage (EHV) interstate and sub-stations.

For, while the government has granted its approval to the Superintending Engineer, South to go for the planned shutdown on March 27, sources said the department is now having second thoughts as the Margao Shigmo parade in the city falls on that day.

Sources said the department had taken the shutdown for entire South Goa on March 27 when the float parade was scheduled in Margao on March 20. The float parade, however, was postponed in Margao to March 27 after realisation dawned that the Nehru stadium, Fatorda will play host to ISL finals on that day.

A power official informed that the department will take a final call on the planned shut down in South Goa on Monday. “We have only got the government approval for the shut down on March 27. So far, the department did not go to the media with the planned shutdown announcement, but somehow the news is in circulation on the social media,” the official said.

The Electricity department had taken a planned shutdown for the annual maintenance at EHV sub-station in South Goa at 220KV Xeldem sub-station, 220 KV Cuncolim sub-station and 110KV Verna sub-station on March 27, from 7 am to 3 pm.

Hence, entire talukas of Canacona, Salcete, Sanguem, Quepem and Mormugao and part of Dharbandora taluka i.e. Kirlapal, Dabal, Shigao, Collem, Mollem and parts of Ponda taluka i.e. Panchwadi Village Panchayat area were supposed to go without power supply.
