Power supply to an entire village in Sattari was disrupted overnight after a transformer caught fire late Thursday night, prompting authorities to start the process of replacing hundreds of transformers in the taluka.
According to locals, a transformer at Koparde village in Sattari caught fire causing huge loss to the Electricity department. The Valpoi fire services extinguished the fire at about 1 am.
When contacted, Valpoi Assistant Engineer Deepak Gawas said the incident may have taken place on account of a short circuit.
“As a result of this fire, power supply to Koparde village was disrupted overnight. Electricity staff worked on war footing to replace the burnt transformer and power supply was restored by 1 pm on Friday,” said Gawas.
Meanwhile, the electricity department is in the process of replacing all transformers in Sattari taluka, after a number of transformers have caught fire and got destroyed in recent times.
Following an approval from the government, efforts are underway to replace the existing transformers in the taluka.
“With these new transformers, fire mishaps will be minimised. Around 250 transformers will be replaced in Sattari taluka,” said Gawas.
