Cong alleges scam in permission to Curca project

PANAJI
The Congress has alleged a scam in permission issued to a project to develop 55 plots in 55,000 sq metres of land at an eco-sensitive zone in Curca.

The Congress has demanded an immediate halt to the project and has threatened to file a petition in the High Court challenging the permissions given by the Town and Country Planning department.

“We request authorities to stop work pending a thorough inquiry. We also demand a revocation of permissions to the project,” said Congress spokesperson Tulio D’Souza.

“There is clear evidence that the land consists of a steep slope and there are salt pans next to the plot.”

Alleging that TCP Minister Babu Kavlekar has ordered those files of all big projects be sent to him, D’Souza said there are almost 250-300 files pending with the TCP minister.

“The minister has ordered that permission for files pertaining to projects of over 800 sq metres or more than 4 apartments should be referred to him for approval. Is the minister a technical authority to scrutinise the projects? Small engineers have to go to the minister to get their projects approved,” said D’Souza.

GPCCP president Girish Chodankar sought to know how land with a steep slope could be shown as usable open space in the project at Curca.
