Stating that the BJP-run Mapusa council had failed toperform in the last five years, the Congress on Monday appealed to voters ofMapusa to reject all candidates fielded by the BJP’s ‘Mapusa Development Front’and give opportunity to the opposition panel.

“For almost 15 years, the BJP has been ruling the MapusaMunicipal Council. What development have they done besides converting Mapusainto a concrete jungle? In the last five years, only corruption has increasedin the municipality and that’s the only contribution of BJP in Mapusa,” saidVijay Bhike, President of the North Goa District Congress Committee addressinga news conference in the party office in Mapusa.

Other senior Congress leaders, Sudin Naik, Bolanath Gadi,Chandan Mandrekar and Mapusa Congress Block President Mithali Gadekar were alsopresent.

Continuing, Bhike said besides passing resolutions theex-council did very little for the people and the city.

“The water and power situation is getting worse day byday. The roads are bad and waste collection is haphazard. If the BJP cannotensure basic necessities to its residents then it’s time for Mhapshekars todump the BJP panel and open a new chapter in Mapusa,” he said.

He further said that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has notime for taxi-owners but has ample of time to move from ward to ward whilecampaigning in Mapusa.

“If the BJP-led Mapusa council has done so much work thenwhy is it necessary for the CM and the ex-CM to campaign so vigorously inMapusa?” he asked.

Tearing into the manifesto of the Mapusa DevelopmentFront, Congress leader Sudin Naik said BJP has become experts in selling dreamsto the people of Goa.

He said the BJP has been promising Mhapshekars to constructa state of the art bus-stand for the last several years. Similarly, he said thepromise of Ravindra Bhavan keeps appearing in the party’s manifesto in everyelection.

“Now, they have said they will regularise unauthorizedconstructions giving another false hope to the people of Mapusa. Why is Mapusagiven step-motherly treatment? The BJP should stop playing with the emotions ofthe people and making false promises,” Naik said.

He said time has come for thepeople of Mapusa to introspect and admit BJP’s incompetence to deliver.
