MARGAO
Exactly a week after the eight Congress MLAs quit the party to embrace the ruling BJP, the Congress is bracing up to kick-start its agitation against the defectors, beginning with Nuvem on Wednesday.
Congress South Goa district Committee President Savio Dias was on the social media on Tuesday, urging party workers to join the protest against defection by Nuvem MLA Alexio Sequeira at 10.30 am at the residence of the Cong-turned-BJP MLA at Raia.
Sources in the know informed that the Congress party is on the job to mobilize party workers to join the protest.
At the meeting of the party karyakartas at the South Goa district Congress Committee on Monday, the party leadership had resolved to stage protests in the eight constituencies where the party MLAs had defected to the BJP last week.
Sources in the Congress informed that unlike 2019 when 10 MLAs had formed a two-third group to quit the party and join the BJP, the party leadership has now decided to hold the protests at the residence of the defectors in the respective constituencies.
The meeting of the Congress karyakartas from South Goa had resolved and vowed to build the party from the scratch.
District Congress Chief Savio D’Silva informed that the party has decided to stage the protests at the residences of the defectors since they have all betrayed the mandate of the people.
He pointed out that that the eight MLAs had even taken a pledge before the Mahalaxmi Temple, Holy Cross Bambolim and the Muslim Dargah that they will not leave the party, if elected. “The eight MLAs have not only betrayed the people who had elected them, but the Gods as well”, he said.
