MARGAO: Congress Party celebrated the Goa Liberation Day at Lohia Maidan Margao by paying floral tributes to the martyrs of the freedom struggle, at the martyrs memorial and statue of Ram Manohar Lohia.
Congress leader Savio Coutinho, in his address, took strong exception to the statement of Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who said that 74 people would not have been martyrs if Liberation was not delayed by 14 years by Congress party and Jawaharlal Nehru. Coutinho criticised the Chief Minister for trying to mislead Goans by propagating falsehood.
Coutinho said that it was on account of the Congress government and then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru that Goa got Liberation from Portuguese rule. Pramod Sawant we consider has sufficient knowledge of the history behind Goa's liberation, and having the same and trying to misguide people is strongly deplorable, he added.
The present dictatorial governance that Goans are subjected to has to be put to an end at the earliest, and hence people have to come forward for another movement he said.
