The Congress on Thursday said that the Chief Minister should direct the Chief Secretary to conduct an inquiry into the details of the travel expenses of the family of Deputy Chief Minister and Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar.
"The details should be placed in the public domain within 15 days," Congress spokesperson Trajano D'Mello told reporters at a press conference held at the party headquarters and demanded to know the source of income through which the three Ajgaonkar family members had paid for their airfare and stay in Dubai when they accompanied Ajgaonkar for the Arabia Travel Market.
Alleging once again that the family of the Tourism Minister had utilised funds from the government treasury, the Congress questioned how else one could explain the crores being spent on tourism, without an actual improvement in the field.
Further, D'Mello demanded to know whether as government servants, the brother and sister-in-law of Ajgaonkar had obtained permission from the government before leaving the country.
Ajgaonkar had on Wednesday said that if anyone sought any clarifications on the accounts of the trip of his family, they could get the same under RTI.
The Congress also raised the issue of the TTAG having written to former CM Parrikar a year ago about the crores of ruppees being spent on trade fairs abroad, and asked why no inquiry had been sought on the same.
The TTAG, had in its letter, accused the Tourism Department of having no road map for development.
