Cong not to import candidate  in Valpoi, says Chidambaram

AICC election observer for Goa and former union minister P Chidambaram assured that candidates would not be imported in Valpoi constituency and that, locals would be given priority on the advice of the block committee.

“The block committee has recommended the names of four candidates and one among them would be considered. However, after the candidate is named, everyone should forget differences and work towards the victory of the Congress candidate in Valpoi constituency,” said Chidambaram, while responding to the issue of selection of candidates raised by many workers during a meeting of the Valpoi Block Congress.

The four ticket aspirants, Ranjit Rane, Roshan Desai, Vishwesh Prabhu and Manisha Usgavkar, North Goa District Committee President Vijay Bhike, Block President Harishchandra Mankar and party leader M K Sheikh were also present on the occasion.

Chidambaram also promised that when the Congress returns to power in the State, a special law would be framed on the issue of land ownership to benefit land owners in Sattari taluka.

Roshan Desai congratulated all workers for attending the rally in large numbers and demanded that the locals should be given party tickets in the constituencies.

Former Valpoi mayor Ashish Kanekar, Ranjit Rane, Vishwesh Prabhu, Nandkumar Kopardekar and Mahesh Desai also spoke on the occasion.
