GPCC President Amit Patkar has stated that the defectors of the past as well the present ones will not be accepted back in the party at any cost.
Patkar made the statement while addressing the protest meet to mark two years of defection of 8 Congress MLAs into the BJP at the Gandhi Circle in Old Goa on Saturday.
“These 8 MLAs are traitors who have betrayed the trust of the voters as well as the Congress party and they will not be accepted back in the party even though some chameleons are still spreading rumours that they will get elected on Congress ticket. The doors of the Congress party are permanently closed for the current defectors as well as those who defected from the party in the past,” Patkar thundered.
Congress block committees of Cumbarjua, St Cruz and St Andre participated in the protest with block presidents Vishal Volvoikar, John Nazareth and Manoj Palkar leading their respective blocks. Santa Cruz Sarpanch Jennifer Oliveira, ZP member Shiny Oliveira and many Congress party workers participated in the protest, and shouted slogans against the defectors. Calls were also made to bring in a stringent anti-defection law to prevent any such defections in the future.
Speakers also slammed the Goa Assembly Speaker for going slow on the anti-defection pleas against the defectors. Later, the posters of the 8 defectors were burnt.
