Cong marks 2nd defection anniversary, pledges to defeat turncoats

Says defectors are part of nexus with mafias that promotes corruption

MARGAO
Congress leaders and workers on Saturday took a pledge to teach all the eight defectors a lesson in the 2027 Assembly election by defeating them in the husting.

Observing the second anniversary of the defection by the eight Congress turncoats, party leaders led by Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, South Goa MP Viriato Fernandes, MLA Altone D’Costa and others cautioned the people of Goa to beware of the defectors, saying the eight are part of the nexus with the mafias that promotes corruption, defection and the sale of land.

They burnt the effigies of the eight defectors as they vowed to teach them a lesson in the coming election.

In his address, the Opposition leader said the eight defectors have not only betrayed the party and the people, but the Gods by defecting to the BJP.

He expressed confidence that the Congress party will emerge as a strong party in the run up to the 2027 Assembly election. “We are all young people, who are leading the party. We have no baggage and our vision is clear that Goa needs to be protected for the posterity,” he added.

In his address, MLA Altone D’Costa said he along with Yuri and MLA Carlos Alvares have stayed back in the party because of certain principles. “I was given the Congress ticket in the 2022 Assembly and my principle demands that I should be grateful and loyal to the party. We have stayed back with the Congress because of the party’s ideology,” he added.

South Goa MP Captain Viriato Fernandes, in his address, went hammer and thongs against Congress-turned-BJP Margao MLA Digambar Kamat saying the MLA betrayed the very party which had made him the Chief Minister to rule Goa for five years. He called upon the people of Margao to teach Kamat a lesson in the 2027 Assembly election.

Congress senior vice-president M K Sheikh, South Goa district Congress chief Savio D’Silva and other leaders slammed the BJP for trying to engineer defections across the country. Congress leader from Margao, Savio Coutinho read out a pledge calling upon the people of Goa to teach the eight defectors a lesson in the 2027 Assembly elections.

Youth leader slams Kamat, says defection only for self-promotion

MARGAO: Youth leader, Prabhav Naik on Saturday slammed Margao MLA Digambar Kamat for putting Madgavkars to shame by murdering democracy and the Constitution of India, saying his defection was only for self-promotion.

Addressing the media coinciding with the second anniversary of the defections of eight Congress MLAs led by Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, Prabhav showed various videos where Margao MLA is seen raising question on the credibility of media when he was confronted on his plans to join BJP. This man has not only insulted media and citizens of Margao but has disrespected Almighty God, he added.

Prabhav said the Margao MLA maintained silence over misappropriation of funds in Margao Municipality. Few days back CM Pramod Sawant said that government-led by Digambar Kamat from 2007-2012 was Lootmar Sarkar. This shows that Margao MLA is promoting corruption, Prabhav Naik said.
