GPCC President Amit Patkar announced that the Congress party is ready for Assembly elections 2027 and that the party will emerge with majority this time around.

Patkar made the announcement while replying to questions during the Samvidhan Bachao Abhiyan for block committees of Cumbarjua, St Andre and Priol constituencies. The programme was held in the Carambolim panchayat hall on Friday.

"We are ready for the 2027 Assembly polls as we have been doing our preparations way back. Also, this time around the Congress will win with a majority," Patkar said while replying to questions on the need to prepare for 2027 Assembly polls so that the party emerges victorious.

Speaking on the question of defections, Patkar sought to know why was everybody obsessed with the ‘gaddhars’.

"Let us not talk about these ‘gaddhars’ but let us focus on the three MLAs who have shown their loyalty to the party by sticking with it in times of crisis," Patkar said.

But in the same tone, he did not waste time in lambasting the Cumbarjua MLA who he said ditched the party for self gains.

Patkar further said that the character of the MLA can be judged from his recent statement wherein he targeted the Save Old Goa Action Committee.

Meanwhile, replying to questions, MP Viriato Fernandes assured that he would continue to address issues like railway station at Neura, river nationalisation, Nauxim marina project, Bhoma highway widening, coal transportation, etc in the Parliament.

On the other hand, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao assured that he would raise local issues in the Assembly like Master Plan for Old Goa to protect its heritage, issues faced by farmers who are unable to cultivate at Carambolim Lake, app aggregator, parking issues near GMC Super Speciality hospital, flooding of underpass at GMC, water supply issues, upgradation of Betki PHC, tenancy issues, among others.

The three block presidents of Cumbarjua, St Andre and Priol constituencies and various other Congress leaders were present for the meeting.
