Cong ready for mid-term elections, confident of winning 25 seats: Girish

MARGAO

Predicting a split in the ruling BJP, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) chief Girish Chodankar on Saturday said the Congress is prepared for any eventuality in view of the unfolding political developments in the State and asserted the party was even ready for a mid-term election, exuding confidence of winning 25 seats.

He further said the Congress is still the single-largest party in the Goa Legislative Assembly if one takes into account that the vote of the Assembly Speaker is not taken into account.

Siding with what Deputy Speaker Michael Lobo stated on the BJP, the State Congress president said the BJP was heading for a split in Goa. “We are not afraid of a mid-term election. If a mid-term election is thrust on the people of Goa, the Congress is confident of winning 25 seats and the BJP may have to settle with just five seats. But, we have been insisting on forming a government in Goa for the simple reason that the people of Goa had given the Congress the mandate to do so, but the BJP and the alliance partners stole that opportunity,” he said.

Saying that the BJP leadership used to call itself a party with a difference, Girish said the recent developments have only reduced it to a party with a lot of differences. “Michael Lobo is speaking the truth. He had the guts to speak the truth because he does not belong to the cadre. It is true that the party will do anything to retain power. Even the cadre is antagonised and it will take the BJP 10 years to recover from this sorry position,” he said.

PANAJIThe Congress on Saturday once again launched a scathing attack on the government, this time because of the “insensitive” way in which Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar was being treated.   In the wake of the three pictures that the CM’s office had released of the CM chairing the Investment Promotion Board meet, and the cabinet meet earlier this week, the Opposition party stated that the CM looked like a “gulacha ganapathi” in the pictures. (“Gulacha Ganapathi”…
