The Congress on Thursday refuted the BJP’s claims that 10 Congress MLAs had approached the saffron party for a “merger.”
Addressing a press conference at Congress headquarters alongside Tivim MLA Nilkanth Halarnkar, state president Girish Chodankar said that the fact that BJP president Vinay Tendulkar had not named the MLAs that approached the BJP, was enough to know that Tendulkar was lying.
Chodankar insisted that BJP was trying to buy MLAs from other parties, since they couldn’t win over any.
Chodankar reminded that it was former CM Manohar Parrikar who had first found a way to break the anti-defection law, and this had led to the BJP misusing this.
Tendulkar had on Wednesday claimed that a group of 10 Congress MLAs had approached the BJP with a proposal to “merge” into the BJP, but the move was rejected by his party’s High Command.
