On the eve of Congress central observer P Chidambaram’s three-day visit to Goa from Friday, GPCC Chief Girish Chodankar said the Congress party is seeking an alliance with the people of Goa to stop the BJP from coming to power in 2022.
He was replying to a query from the media on how the Congress will deal with offers of alliance received from like-minded parties. He said these questions will be dealt with by the party High Command.
Declining to comment on the controversial issue of alliances with like-minded parties, Girish said party High Command observers P Chidambaram and Dinesh Rao are visiting the state from tomorrow and they will be interacting with various people, trying to get inputs and feedback from the people on how the Congress should prepare for the 2022 election. “All I know for the moment is that the Congress is seeking an alliance with the people of Goa, who are fed up with the ruling BJP for the misrule. As far as the alliances with other parties are concerned, the party leaders will be in a position to give clarity on the matter”, he said, adding he has no mandated to talk on the issue of alliances.
He said Chidambaram will have interaction with workers of all the 40 blocks as part of the election preparedness and based on the feedback will shortlist the aspirants in the blocks.
Besides P Chidambaram, AICC In-charge Dinesh Rao as well as the three observers Prakash Rathod, Mansoor Khan and Sunil Hanumannavar will also accompany the Congress Election Observer and Strategist.
Chidambaram will have a meeting with Saligao block at 6 pm on Friday.
On September 4, he will have a meeting of Chairman/Convenor of Election Committees at 10.30 am, interaction with newly appointed Block Presidents at 12 noon and block meeting at Margao at 6 pm.
On 5th September, he will attend the National Executive Meeting of Indian Youth Congress at Goa at 10 am and 10.45 am, attend the block Meeting at St Andre at 11 am and a block meeting at Cortalim at 12.15 pm.
