PANAJI
The Congress on Wednesday dug into the archives and pulled out a 1994 newspaper advertisement to highlight that the BJP which has held the Panaji seat since then had failed to fulfill the promise to clean up the St Inez creek over 25 years.
Flashing the 1994 newspaper advertisement which solicited support for late Manohar Parrikar in his debut election, Congress spokesperson Yatish Naik said the same promise of cleansing the St Inez creek is being repeatedly made by the BJP for the last 25 years with nothing tangible to show.
“Since the 1994 election, BJP has been winning the Panjim seat. However, the promise made by them since then has still not been fulfilled even today,” Naik said, while referring to the condition of the St Inez creek.
Also present at the press conference was Babi Bagkar, the Congress candidate for the Mandrem by-election held on April 23 and Goa Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary Vijay Pai.
Naik said, similarly several other promises pertaining to Panjim have also gone unfulfilled by the BJP despite having won the seat successively and also having its government ruling the State and the late Parrikar serving multiple tenures as Chief Minister of Goa.
The city’s parking woes, erratic water supply in several geographical locations, garbage issue among others were some of the Panjim constituency-centric issues that are still begging for solutions, Naik added.
