The Congress party has said that Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar seen having a nap in Parliament when Prime Minister Narenda Modi was addressing on the contentious issue of demonetisation is highly condemnable, while demanding that Parrikar should be relieved of the sensitive defense Ministry and sent back to Goa.

Addressing the media, All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary Girish Chodankar said that it is a shame for Goa and Goans that the Defense Minister was found sleeping in Parliament during the debate on demonetisation addressed by the Prime Minister. “This is the second occasion. In the first instance Parrikar was found napping on Republic Day. This is highly condemnable. During the Congress-led government headed by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, the BJP used to criticize the government even on trivial issues,” he said.

Saying that the Defense Ministry is a full-time job for any Minister, Chodankar demanded that Parrikar should be relieved of the Ministry and sent back to Goa.

On the huge turn out of women in the February 4 election, Chodankar exuded confidence that the women will vote for the Congress party as the womenfolk was agitated over the rising prices of commodities and the hike in power and water bills.
