Cong tells PWD to prioritise pre-monsoon works

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee on Wednesday demanded the Public Works Department of the State government to review its latest circular advising its work divisions not to propose tenders for pre-monsoon works. Congress has urged the PWD to prioritise the work with the monsoons barely a month away.

PWD has issued a circular to its work division numbers 1 to 25 stating that no tender should be proposed for carrying out pre-monsoon works and that these works should be carried out using the labour available with the department.
Commenting on this development, GPCC general secretary and chief spokesperson Sunil Kawthankar stated, “The volume of the pre-monsoon works including gutter cleaning, vegetation clearance, mending potholes, changing slabs and other repairs is too large to be handled within the department. If the work could be done by the department, why was it tendered all these years? PWD should review the decision and prioritise this work.”
He insisted that the circular is indicative of the financial decay which he alleged has peaked in Goa under the BJP.
Meanwhile, Congress also took potshots at the Goa Forward Party and speculated that GF’s defence of Karnataka’s coal and steel industry at the cost of Vasco’s health and environment could be a sign that the young party is eyeing a new electorate for expansion.   “It was GF’s job to defend Goemkarponn after their fiery election campaign. But they instead chose to allow Goans to suffer for the benefit of Karnataka’s steel industry. Following their U-turn and betrayal of Goan electorate, they have realized that they stand no chance in this state. So, it is possible that GF is exploring a new electorate to expand,” he  stated.
