Cong to file plaint against CM for 'threatening' Goans

PANAJI

The Congress party on Thursday hit out at Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, accusing him of threatening the people of Goa for their opposition to mobile towers. The party said they would will file a police complaint against Parsekar as well as seek the Governor’s intervention.

Speaking to mediapersons, GPCC general secretary and spokesperson Sunil Kawthankar, said “The Chief Minister had on Wednesday said that the government will use their weapons against people opposing the erection of mobile towers. The Chief Minister is threatening peaceful protesters. Such threatening and intimidating language is unbecoming of a chief minister and a reflection of the Bharatiya Janata Party's good governance. The Chief Minister should state what weapons will be used,” said Kawthankar.

Questioning why the Chief Minister did not use similar weapons in tackling the drug menace in his constituency, Kawthankar said the complaint would be filed as having posed a threat to the people of Goa.

While commenting on Parsekar's and BJP president Vinay Tendulkar's statements defending Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar's presence in Goa at the time of the Uri militant attack, Kawthankar said “They have been forced by the Parrikar to comment, to save his name.”

He added that the Congress had never demanded that Parrikar stand watch 24x7 at the borders. “We asked for his presence in Delhi. If his presence in Delhi is not required, then why did he rush to Delhi after the incident?” he asked.
