MARGAO
Goa Congress observer Manikrao Thakare on Wednesday said it is a strong view of the Congress High Command that the party should declare candidates for the ensuing Lok Sabha polls at the earliest.

He, however, hastened to add that the responsibility of announcing candidates for the Lok Sabha polls rests with the All India Congress Committee and the party leaders.

Briefing the media during his visit to the South Goa District Congress office here on Wednesday, the Goa desk in-charge said he had interactions with party leaders and workers during the last two days on ways to strengthen the party organization and gear up for the coming Lok Sabha polls.

When the media sought to know when exactly the party would declare the candidates for the coming polls, he said the matter falls in the domain of the AICC. He, however, said that there’s a firm view amongst the national party leaders that the party should declare the candidates at the earliest.

Asked about his brief in Goa, Thakare said he is visiting the state for the first time after he was appointed the Goa desk in-charge. “I have had meetings with state party leaders, PCC office bearers, district level leaders and the blocks presidents. My brief is clear that I want to strengthen the organization right from the booth level to the district level and gear up the party for the coming polls,” he said.
