Cong will work to reduce BJP to single digit: GPCC chief

MAPUSA
Stating that BJP’s form of vikas (development) is to bring projects that Goans do not want, President of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC), Girish Chodankar on Sunday said Congress will work to reduce BJP to a single digit party in the State in the forthcoming elections.

He said the Congress has always been on the forefront in raising issues concerning the people and have time and again come on road to expose the illegality of the BJP-led government in the State.

“We held various andolans to expose BJP’s miss-governance in the State literally bringing them to their knees. The BJP has no strength to defeat the BJP. This time we need to get an absolute majority,” Chodankar said.

The GPCC president was addressing a gathering after inducting two Mapusa councilor brothers, Tarak Arolkar and Vikas Arolkar into the Congress party in the North Goa District Congress office in Mapusa.

GPCC General Secretary, Agnelo Fernandes and Congress leaders Amarnath Panjikar, Vijay Bhike and Carlos Ferreira were also present.

The Arolkar brothers who had joined the BJP after getting elected as councilors in Mapusa council five months ago had recently resigned from the saffron party alleging non-cooperation from Aldona MLA, Glenn Ticlo.

While addressing his supporters after joining the Congress party on Sunday, Tarak Arolkar said besides sticking to the Congress ideology his primary aim would be to work for the people.

“At the present rate of inflation, a person earning Rs 15,000 cannot run a family any more. The BJP ideology is only to work for the party and not for the people,” Arolkar said.

Hitting out at Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo, he said the Ticlo failed to bring any big development projects in Aldona despite being an MLA for 10 years.

“The Aldona MLA has not displayed any vision to come up with a good market project, bus-stand or a playground in Aldona which is the need of the hour. His vision was only to construct gutters,” Arolkar said.

Sources claim that Tarak Arolkar is also an assembly ticket aspirant in Aldona. Senior Congress leaders Amarnath Panjikar and Carlos Ferreira are in the race for the party ticket in the constituency.
