The Congress appears to be bracing up to meet the challenge of the Goa Forward Party in Cuncolim, with Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) chief Girish Chodankar exuding confidence that party workers in Cuncolim constituency will give a befitting reply to false propaganda unleashed by their opponents.
The GPCC chief was interacting with the media on the occasion of the appointment of Shaikh Mohammed (Mansoor) as the president of Cuncolim minority block on Saturday. “Attempts are being made to paint the party in poor light by the opponents of the Congress in recent times. They have been targeting party MLA Clafacio Dias without any basis and on false grounds. Our party workers will not tolerate all these baseless allegations,” Chodankar said, adding that party workers will give a befitting reply to the false propaganda launched by the political opponents against the Congress in Cuncolim.
The statement made by the GPCC chief assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of the Goa Forward team led by TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai and the Joaquim-Yuri Alemao duo making repeated attempts to make inroads into Cuncolim constituency.
That the GPCC chief tried to give a clean chit by saying that Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias is working for the people of the constituency shows that the Congress leadership has rallied behind the party MLA representing Cuncolim and is now ready to take on the Goa Forward troika comprising Vijai-Joaquim-Yuri.
GFP has set its eyes on Cuncolim constituency ever since Yuri, son of former two-time Cuncolim MLA Joaquim Alemao, joined the regional party around a year ago. Since then, the regional party has not left a single stone unturned to take on the Congress MLA Clafacio Dias on issues including the Chandor state highway, Cuncolim power project and realignment of the Cuncolim road bypass.
