CANACONA
Canacona Congress Block on Wednesday confronted the assistant executive engineer over erratic power supply in the entire taluka. “Not a single day passes without frequent power outages, which is turning from bad to worse. Power outages have become a daily feature,” said GPCC State General Secretary Janardhan Bhandari.
Bhandari along with various other Congress leaders were giving vent to their grievances when they confronted Canacona Electricity Department Asst Exec Engineer Vinayak Mhalshekar and sought an explanation from him.
GPCC Secretary Mahadev Desai demanded an explanation for the power outages even though the electricity department had undertaken shutdowns for pre-monsoon works in April and May. “Despite these shutdowns, there has been no improvement in power supply,” said Dessai.
A member of the Canacona Youth Congress block said that people from all walks of life had been affected by erratic power supply, which had gone from bad to worse.
The Congress Block later submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, complaining about the frequent power outages in the taluka which has troubled residents as well as tourist operaters. “People have been considerate and the department is taking undue advantage of this leniency and nothing works well. The power department needs a good dressing
from the government,’ stated the memorandum.
Copies of the memorandum have also been forwarded to Power Minister Nilesh Cabral, Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes, chief secretary and electricity department officials.
