Congress gives CEC a month to resign, threatens nationwide stir

PANAJI

The Congress has warned of nationwide protests if Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar does not resign within a month, IYC Secretary and Goa Pradesh Youth Congress in-charge Swapnil Patil said.

Patil said the Congress high command had demanded Kumar’s resignation and warned that the party would launch protests across the country if the demand was not met within the stipulated period.

In Goa, the protests would be organised at various levels, including in villages, panchayats and on the streets, he said.

Patil also called for the upcoming elections in Goa to be conducted using ballot papers instead of EVMs, citing concerns raised by the party over the credibility and transparency of the electoral process.

The Congress has been seeking greater scrutiny of the election process and has repeatedly questioned the use of EVMs.
