Congress revamp bolsters Cong blocks

MARGAO
Four days after the Congress High Command dissolved the party block committees, apparently for a revamp, three block presidents from Salcete, in the constituencies of Opposition leader Digambar Kamat, newly-elected working president Aleixo Sequeira and Yuri Alemao have made a comeback.

In fact, the close confidante of Opposition leader, Gopal Naik, has returned at the helm of Margao Block Congress Committee on Tuesday, and so was Sequeira’s close aide Manuel D’Costa as head of the Nuvem block.

The Joaquim-Yuri Alemao got their key person Assis Noronha back as the Cuncolim Block Congress Chief.

The decision by the party high command to signal the return of these three block presidents along with the heads of five others assumes significance and comes a day after the party leadership maintained the status quo vis-à-vis the leadership issue and appointed Sequeira as the state working president.

Along with these three constituencies, GPCC Vice-president M K Sheikh has also appointed Atul Naik as Saligao block president, Sushant Govekar in St Cruz constituency, Ashwin D’Souza (Aldona), Avadoot Amonkar (Quepem), Pralay Bhagat (Canacona) and Pushkal Sawant (Curchorem).

Sheikh pointed out that these block presidents have been appointed with the concurrence of the AICC Goa desk in-charge, Dinesh Gundu Rao and other observers.

These block presidents have returned after the blocks were dissolved by the party high command on August 27 hours after party leaders P Chidambaram and Dinesh Gundu Rao left the state.
