The Congress party on Wednesday released its fifth list ofcandidates, setting aside its convention of not more than one ticket per familyto nominate Delilah Lobo in Siolim and snubbing its former three-term MLA andrenegade Aleixo Reginald Lourenco by nominating his rival Moreno Rebello forCurtorim.
The three other candidates it announced in the list issuedby AICC General Secretary Mukul Wasnik are Dr Dinesh Jalmi for Priol, KedarNaik for Saligao and former Advocate General Carlos Ferreira Alvares forAldona.
Delilah made the cut for Siolim days after her husband andformer minister Michael Lobo who defected from the BJP was nominated for histraditional Calangute constituency.
In a comic turn of events, Lourenco, who had been given thenomination by the Congress in its first list announced more than a month ago, eventually lost out to rival Moreno Rebello after he had deserted the party andjoined the Trinamool Congress.
A few days ago, however, Lourenco suddenly did a volte-faceand quit the TMC too saying he had made a mistake joining that party.
Interestingly, Rebello who ultimately found favour with theCongress leadership too had deserted the party a day after it had announced theticket for Lourenco and joined the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He toodid a volte-face when Lourenco quit to join the TMC and returned to theCongress.
Meanwhile, the Congress has left the Mandrem seat for itsalliance partner Goa Forward Party (GFP) of former Deputy Chief Minister VijaiSardesai.
The announcement was made in a tweet by AICC's Goa deskin-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao.
"Congratulations to all the selected @INCIndiacandidates for the 5 constituencies of the #GoaElections2022. The 1-Mandremconstituency has been alloted to the @Goaforwardparty," Gundu Rao tweeted.
