Goa Pradesh Congress President Girish Chodankar on Saturday assured that if Congress comes to power in the State, land-related issues in Sattari will be resolved within one year.
He was addressing a gathering during the Goy Rakhonn Yatra in Valpoi and Poriem constituencies.
Those present at the Yatra included AICC Goa in-charge Manikrao Thakare, Goa Pradesh Congress President Girish Chodankar, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, Aldona MLA Adv. Carlos Ferreira, Quepem MLA Alton D’Costa, Congress Goa co-in-charge Dr Anjali Nimbalkar, working president Sunil Kawthankar, and others.
The yatra began from the mosque at Manas. The leaders later paid tribute at the Martyrs’ Memorial in Valpoi, visited the Shri Hanuman Temple at Vaifal and subsequently met members of the Muslim community at the mosque.
The yatra focused on issues concerning land, the environment, employment and the rights of local people. Congress leaders also launched a strong attack on the BJP government over governance and development-related issues.
Speaking further, Chodankar said the Goy Rakhonn Yatra had received an enthusiastic response from people in Valpoi and claimed that Congress would make a significant political comeback in the constituency.
Chodankar further claimed that the entry of outside interests into Sattari had made it necessary for local people to remain alert. He said Congress would focus on providing quality healthcare and reiterated his assurance that the Sattari land ownership rights would be resolved within one year if Congress came to power in the State.
Thakare claimed the Congress is becoming stronger in Goa and is receiving increasing public support.
He said people were losing faith in the BJP and that Congress would form the government in the coming period, with a focus on the interests of working and farming communities.
He also called for opposition parties to unite against the BJP and said discussions on an alliance among opposition parties would be taken forward.
Congress Goa co-in-charge Dr Anjali Nimbalkar alleged that the assurance to establish a 70-bed hospital at Usgao had not been fulfilled.
She said Congress would remain committed to protecting women and sisters and invoked the ideals of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj while speaking in Marathi.
Aldona MLA Adv. Carlos Ferreira alleged corruption in government recruitment, transfers and permissions. He claimed that the government had created an atmosphere of fear among the people. Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao and MLA Alton D’Costa also spoke at the Yatra.
