Goa State Industries Association on Saturday met Union Minister of State for Shipping Shripad Naik after the container feeder service was stopped at Mormugao Port Trust on Monday.
When contacted, GSIA President Damodar Kochkar said the meeting was fruitful and the delegation had a long discussion with Naik over the issue.
"The union minister assured that the feeder service from Colombo to Goa would not be stopped. He also said the authorities will, if required, provide assistance to MPT to buy cranes to cater to containers arriving by ships at MPT so that there is no delay in the handling of containers due to infrastructural needs," said Kochkar.
"We have told him that if MPT puts in proper infrastructure and keeps at least one berth dedicated only for container services, we will support them, in turn, by getting more business of containers from pharma units," added Kochkar.
Kochkar also confirmed reports about the inability to book the movement of containers to and from the Goa Port.
"The services have presently been stopped since Monday because we received an email that a person from Portugal was trying to book a container to Goa but he received the message that the service to Goa Port has been suspended. People now cannot book containers to and from Goa Port," said Kochkar.
