Contempt petition on Mhadei is a face saving act by CM Sawant : AAP

PANAJI

The Aam Aadmi Party on Friday termed the contempt petition filed by Goa government against Karnataka government for diversion of River Mhadei Water as “eyewash”.

AAP leader Adv Surel Tilve alleged that in an attempt to play safe, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant is resorting to ways which won’t have any impact. “The contempt petition has no grounds because Central government has already issued a gazette notification allowing Karnataka to implement Mhadei project,’ he sought to point out.

“In a letter responding to CM Sawant which was written on March 5, 2020, Jal Shakti Minister Gajender singh Shekhwat said that Karnataka does not require any permission from Goa government to build its project on Mhadei. Why hasn’t CM Sawant discussed this with PM Modi in his recent meeting when Jal Shakti minister has nothing to offer? What matters to centre is the number of parliamentary seatsand that is why Karnataka is dearer to BJP’s central government than Goa,” Tilve charged adding that all evidences are showing that BJP is favouring Karnataka.

AAP has called upon Goans to pressurize the central government to intervene in an unbiased manner and listen to the issue of River Mhadei instead of waiting for CM Sawant to act.
