Cooperation Minister Subhash Shirodkar on Friday announced that Goa’s cooperative sector recorded a turnover of Rs 13,523 crore in 2023-24, up from Rs 9,923 crore in 2022-23, showing steady growth and better performance across the sector. He said that the audit for 2024-25 is currently in progress.

The minister highlighted that Goa has around 1,000 active credit societies, including dairy cooperatives, Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), and credit banks. These institutions, he said, continue to play an important role in supporting farmers and rural communities.

In a key step towards education and skill development, Shirodkar announced that the government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tribhuvan University to start certification and degree courses in cooperative studies.

He also said that Cooperation Day will be celebrated on November 1, followed by Cooperation Week from November 14 to 20, which will include various programmes to promote awareness and public involvement in the cooperative movement across Goa.
