The Coordination Committee meeting of the INDIA bloc on Monday seemed to have got rid of the “irritants” that had cropped up amongst the alliance partners on a host of issues, including the question of taking the campaign forward, holding corner and public meetings in support of the Alliance candidate.
The coordination committee meeting was presided by Congress Goa Observer Manikrao Thakare and attended by the presidents of the alliance partners, including Congress chief Amit Patkar, Aam Admi Party president Amit Palekar, Goa Forward chief Vijai Sardesai, NCP chief Jose Philip D’Souza, besides MLAs, leader of opposition Yuri Alemao, Carlos Alvares, Venzy Viegas and others.
Addressing the media after chairing the coordination committee meeting, Goa Congress observer Thakare said the meeting discussed a host of issues and how to take the campaign of the alliance candidates forward.
He said the people of Goa have accepted the candidates provided by the Congress and supported by the INDIA bloc as evidenced by the support generated in favour of Ramakant Khalap in North Goa and Captain Viriato Fernandes in South Goa.
In his address, GPCC Chief Amit Patkar said the coordination committee has addressed all minor issues facing the alliance, saying the road map for the campaign has been cleared at the meeting.
“Today, we discussed the campaign strategy with the alliance partners and how to go about with the campaign. We have decided on the corner meetings and the public meetings across the segments in both the Lok Sabha constituencies,” he said.
To a question over the absence of the ticket aspirants at the campaign of the Congress candidates, Patkar said a couple of ticket aspirants including Girish Chodankar and Vijay Bhike have already joined the campaign of the party candidates. "All our leaders are working for the party candidates,” he said, adding that MP Francisco Sardinha has made it clear that he stands by the Congress party.
