According to Bicholim Police, Head Constable Sitaram (42) -- a resident of Ambegal-Pale, Bicholim -- died on the spot, while his wife, Suvarnalaxmi (38), died while undergoing treatment at GMC Hospital in Bambolim. Their two children, Saloni (14) and Shashwat (5) were seriously injured and are undergoing treatment at GMC.
Police said Sitaram along with his family was proceeding to his in-laws place at Chorao in their Wagon R (GA-04-C-4878), while the truck (GA-04-C-1518) was proceeding from Navelim towards Surla when the accident took place near Mohit Ispat Factory at Navelim-Bicholim at about 11.10 am.
Police said even as all the injured were being rushed to GMC Hospital, Sitaram died on the way at Amona.
Police further informed that his wife breathed her last at about 3 pm while her children are undergoing treatment. The bodies of Sitaram and Suvarnalaxmi will be handed over to their relatives on Monday after a post-mortem is conducted, informed police.
ASI Harishchandra Parab of Bicholim Police conducted the Panchanama. Bicholim Police have registered an offence against the truck driver under Sections 279, 337 and 304 A of IPC. PSI Anand Narvekar is investigating the case under the guidance of PI Narayan Chimulkar and DySP Ramesh Gaonkar.
