MARGAO
Concerned citizens of Margao on Friday slammed the police and other authorities for allowing a procession at the Rumdamol Housing Board on Monday a day after the communal disturbances in the area.
In the memorandum, the citizens asked why did the Goa police allow people from other places gather at the Housing Board despite knowing the sensitivity of the matter. Why did the police not take action to stop the illegal rally taken out late that night, they asked.
They further sought to know who would have been responsible if any untoward incident had taken place due to the rally taken out by the right-wing group.
“This incident has once again proven the failure of the state machinery to function efficiently and is neglecting the calls raised by the Muslim voices”, the memorandum added.
Sheikh Muzaffar Ahmed said the incident on Monday night has once again brought the sensitive areas of Housing Board to the verge of communal violence.
