Concerned over a stench in the water, the Pale Tollem Xetkaramchem Association (PTXA) has decided to request various authorities to conduct inspection and water sample testing of the Pale Lake.
The decision was taken during the General Body Meeting of the PTXA farmers chaired by Roquezinho D’Souza, General Secretary Joaquim D’souza and Treasurer Caitano Carvalho.
"The Pale Tollem has been filled to full capacity and the water is stinking unlike before. The Nullah connecting Pale Tollem has been flowing from Cansaulim village and farmers feel that the water is contaminated due to effluents released in the Nullah from sewage and other waste,” said PTXA Chairman Roquezinho D’Souza.
“We decided to petition various authorities like the Cansaulim PHC, Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) and WRD to conduct an inspection and to initiate necessary action to tackle this problem," said D’Souza.
D’Souza said the PTXA also decided to request the WRD to de-silt drains/Nullas surrounding the fields.
“The PTXA will also request the panchayat to construct road access to the fields, to make it convenient to take farming machinery like tractors, harvesters, etc,” he added.
