The Goa Police department has once again found itself entangled in a controversy. In a latest allegation, a female police sub-inspector has accused a Traffic Police Inspector (PI), and her subordinate -- an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of indulging in illegal activities along the coastal belt and constantly subjecting her to work harassment.
This matter came to light when she submitted a written complaint to Inspector General of Police Omvir Singh on August 29 narrating her ordeal.
The PSI has squarely blamed the PI and ASI for taking voluntary retirement alleging harassment. “The PI has been harassing her without valid reasons, and even marking her absent from duty without addressing her concerns. We are also told that when she questioned about the misuse of e-challan machines, it further worsened her problems,” an officer, in the know of the issue, revealed.
The woman official has also accused the PI of shielding the ASI from facing consequences for his alleged wrongdoings; and urgently called for a thorough investigation into the e-challans issued by her subordinate.
A number of personnel from the Traffic Cells have been exploiting the ‘bug’ in the POS machines even though the department assured to resolve it after The Goan’s expose on August 27. However, the concerned personnel have not faced consequences by their higher ups as yet.
“She is extremely disappointed over the manner in which she is being treated on the professional front. She has clearly stated that her decision to opt for VRS is because she has succumbed to the pressure of the PI and the ASI,” the source revealed.
In her complaint, she further alleged the ASI claims political connections, using them to abruptly shunt even the higher-ranking officers.
It has also come to the fore that an ASI was moved to Anjuna Traffic Cell after The Goan's news reports on the issue last month. The ASI, sources said, was previously serving at Calangute Traffic Cell and transferred to Anjuna Traffic Cell but was never relieved until the present development. Sources said that the ASI keeps shuttling between the two Cells presently.
