The Goa Police appointed 28 Police Inspectors as nodal officers to attend to grievances on bullfights across North and South Goa.

The department has also released helpline numbers for citizens to lodge complaints about any ongoing or pending complaints of bullfights in the State.

The action comes four months after the High Court of Bombay at Goa in a contempt plea ordered the police force to keep a close eye on bullfights and sought a mechanism to prevent their reoccurrence.

“Pursuant to the order dated April 7, 2023 of the High Court of Bombay at Goa in Contempt Petition No. 10 of 2021 in Writ Petition No. 347 of 1996 filed by People’s for Animals Goa V/s Shri Parimal Rai & Ors, the action plan to curb bull fights (Dhirios) in the State of Goa was reviewed and finalised,” reads a press statement issued by PRO, Superintendent of Police Bossuet Silva.

Accordingly, the citizens have been urged to call helpline numbers, that is, 112 or WhatsApp number 7875756000 to inform them of any pending or ongoing bullfights.

“The public are informed that they can also log in on the website of Goa Police, that is, www.goapolice.gov.in... or call concerned nodal officers,” it said while releasing the official numbers of the PI.
