Cops seek bail cancellation of Merces attack accused

Panaji Police have moved a proposal seeking the state government’s permission to approach the High Court of Bombay at Goa for cancellation of the bail of rape accused Lawrence Dias, who has now been accused in the Merces attack on Mumbai tourists. rn“The accused is likely to repeat similar offences under the cover of bail order,” Panaji Police submission reads.

Dias was arrested by Panaji police in 2008 for raping a British national. A year later the additional sessions court convicted him and sentenced him to seven years rigorous imprisonment.   
Dias, however, moved a bail application before the HC, which was granted on March 6, 2014. HC, while staying the order of the additional sessions court, had ordered Dias to furnish a personal bond of Rs 25,000 with solvent surety in the like amount.
