Corpse of drowned youth traced

The body of a 22-year-old youth from Ponda, who drowned in the bandhara at Ganje-Usgao on Sunday evening, was fished out on Monday afternoon.

Fire station personnel had started search operations on Monday morning and the body of the youth, Noor Mohammad Sifulla Halgire, was traced later in the afternoon.   
According to information, the deceased along with his friends had gone for a picnic at Ganje-Usgao on Sunday. Unaware of the depth of the bandhara, Noor was dragged inside by underwater currents.   
Fire station officer Sushil Morajkar, sub officer M B Gawandi, fire fighter R S Talwar, M I Shaikh, Rupesh Pal, Charudatt Pal and other staff were part of the search operations.   
Bicholim Police is investigating the case.   
Youth injured in Bhatpal accident 
CANACONA: A 25-year-old motorcyclist was injured after he was knocked down by an unidentified car along the NH17 at Bhatpal early Monday morning.  
According to the victim Vijay Devkar, he was proceeding on his two-wheeler from Bhatpal to his house at New Waddo, Bhatpal.  
“On reaching some metres away, I saw a silver-coloured Wagon R coming from behind. The car slowed down a bit while overtaking me and suddenly took a turn ahead and it hit my motorcycle. I fell on the road and injured my hand and leg,” informed Devkar.  
The car driver halted for a moment and then fled from the scene. However, the victim noted the registration number of the car. Canacona Police was informed and wireless message was flashed to the control room Margao.  
Meanwhile, Devkar was rushed to the CHC and 
was treated for leg and hand injuries. Doctor on duty, Dr Amey Ayya informed that the patient is being referred to Hospicio in Margao to further check his elbow. Efforts are ongoing to trace the car.
