With the onset of the festive season in Goa, vehicular traffic seems to have swelled too in various parts of the State and Cortalim highway was no different with a huge surge on Saturday, reportedly causing heavy jam on the Zuari bridge.
The surge in traffic left several motorists fuming as vehicles were held up for a long time along the Cortalim road even as teams from Goa Police and Traffic Police were quick to manage and regulate the serpentine queues of vehicles.
Though sources claimed that there was chaos at the Cortalim junction with huge line of cars and other vehicles moving at snail's pace along the Zuari bridge, the traffic department denied that there was any traffic jam along the route.
"There are a lot of tourists who have arrived in the state to celebrate the festive season. We had a huge rush of vehicles coming from the airport side with tourists during peak hours and we also have the regular office goers from places like Verna Industrial Estate. there is definitely a surge in vehicular moveement today," said a source in the Traffic department.
The source said that though some claimed that there were reports of a minor accident on the bridge, which was not true and that the teams had been deployed at various points like Cortalim circle, Zuari bridge entry point, Aggacaim police station, etc to ensure smooth flow of traffic.
"There was no traffic jam and our staff managed to regulate the increased vehicular traffic," the source in the traffic department added.
