Stating that NCP was silent all these years only to make noise just prior to elections for publicity, Vasco BJP Mandal President and Former Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Deepak Naik dared the NCP to contest the municipal elections and get at least one seat elected in the upcoming municipal elections .

Naik was speaking to reporters in the presence of former MMC Chairperson Nandadeep Raut, outgoing councillors Fredrick Henriques and Yatin Kamurkekar at a press conference to counter recent allegations made by NCP that there had been absolutely no development in MMC during the last tenure of 5 years.

"We have done what no other council has done and we have shown stability of 4 years and we even started with door to door garbage collection which was never done earlier. We revived the finances of MMC and got it stable from the almost bankruptcy state when we took over. With the help of MLAs and Minsters, we got grants and purchased vehicles, compactors and even JCBs which were hired earlier. We even got even tax collection on an online platform. These NCP leaders who are criticizing us should contest in any of the 25 wards and get elected and then speak," said Naik.

Former MMC Chairperson Nandadeep Raut said making baseless allegations for publicity would not help NCP to win the confidence of the people.

"In a very short span of 16 months, of which around 7 months were wasted because of Covid, I managed to carry out works of Rs35 crore which is a record by itself in MMC. Another major thing is that we cleared around 1.5 lakh metric tons of legacy waste that was lying as a dump for over 35 years. We also have works for Fish market,  MMC Building renovation and old power house project in the pipeline. In my own ward alone, we have carried out works of over Rs3.5 crores and NCP must not talk but try and contest or at least attempt to work against us, instead of making such baseless allegations," said Raut.
