SANGUEM
Upset over the halt in construction of a parallel bridge at Bendwada-Sanguem, residents of Sanguem who have united to form the ‘Sanguekarancho Eovott’ will stage a road-blockade agitation at Bendwada Bridge at Sanguem on Sunday at 2 pm.
Addressing a news conference in Sanguem, Sanguemkarancho Ekvott President Meshu Da Costa alleged that development projects in the constituency had been kept pending by authorities following pressure of a local political leader and appealed to people of Sanguem to support the agitation.
“We will not tolerate political interference in development projects, especially the parallel bridge at Bendwada. Work on this bridge began last year, but it was halted when the lockdown started in March,” said Da Costa.
“Despite assurance from authorities the contractor is yet to complete the construction of the bridge. In fact, the contractor had recently moved material and equipment from the construction site.”
“The contractor had assured to return the equipment to the site after some repair work, but no machinery has been brought back to the site,” added Da Costa.
Da Costa warned that the Sanguemkarancho Ekvott would continue its agitation till the bridge is completed.
Other committee members Mithil Dessai, Dilesh Sambhari and Michael Fernandes were also present at the news conference.
Incidentally, the Sanguem Block Congress has also decided to support to the Bandh on Sunday.
