A huge garbage dump piled along the roadside at Birla in Zuaringar caught fire on Friday afternoon. Though the fire was huge, it did not spread to a near by busstop located in the area where a few people were standing while waiting for a bus.
Being Christmas there was a lot of vehicular movement along the road between Velsao and Queeny Nagar circle and luckily there was no injuries or loss of life due to the fire incident.
The passersby and local residents soon alerted the fire department and a fire tender from Verna rushed to the site and doused the fire before it could spread to the nearby residential and commercial area.
When contacted, sources in the fire department said that the reason for the fire was not known but they had managed to douse the fire on time before it could spread further.
Locals of the area have requested the authorities to intervene and impose huge fines on people dumping their garbage along the roadside.
